Community Disaster Program Manager

As a Community Disaster Program Manager with the American Red Cross, you will ensure effective collaboration with Volunteer Services; identify, mobilize, and engage partners in all communities in the assigned geographic area; and determine current readiness resources, facilities, supplies, local vendors, and strategies for addressing gaps. This full-time position covers Huntsville, AL and Birmingham, AL. Applicants must live within Etowah, Cherokee, DeKalb, Marshall, or Jackson counties in Alabama, preferably Gadsden, AL. Note: this position is not eligible for relocation assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support a diverse volunteer team implementing disaster cycle services programming (mass care, response, community preparedness, recovery, planning, and readiness)
  • Develop and support disaster volunteers as the primary workforce, representative of the communities served
  • Lead community engagement efforts to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies
  • Build relationships and collaborate in a matrix management environment with internal partners
  • Act as the Red Cross disaster subject matter expert within the assigned geographic area
  • Initiate and coordinate disaster relief operations in alignment with the Disaster Cycle Services Concept of Operations
  • Build trust and increase access to disaster services in diverse, historically underserved communities

Regional disaster employees are required to deploy to disaster relief operations outside their region at least once a year.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience building, mobilizing, leading, and developing volunteer teams for a social services program
  • A valid driver's license and clean MVR

Required Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Proven collaboration with diverse groups, managing multiple priorities, facilitation, and partnership management
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to work outside regular duty hours including nights and weekends
