Variety St. Louis is looking for an Associate Major Gifts Officer who loves connecting with people, building authentic relationships, and turning shared values into meaningful action.

For more than 90 years, Variety has empowered St. Louis-area children and teens with disabilities through access to vital medical equipment, therapy, recreation, and performing arts programs. Our work helps children build independence, confidence, skills, and connection—and the generosity of our donors makes that work possible.

We are looking for someone who wants to become an exceptional major-gifts fundraiser. This is not primarily an event-planning position. It is a frontline relationship-building role with the opportunity to manage a meaningful portfolio of donors and prospects, learn from experienced fundraising leadership, work alongside committed community and board leaders, and help grow the philanthropic relationships that fuel Variety’s mission.

What You’ll Do

You will manage and develop a portfolio of approximately 100–125 donors and prospects, primarily at the $10,000+ level.

Working closely with Variety’s Director of Development, you will:

• Build genuine, long-term relationships with donors and prospective donors.
• Meet personally with supporters to learn about their interests, motivations, and philanthropic goals.
• Develop thoughtful cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
• Personally ask donors to invest in Variety’s mission and participate in solicitations with organizational and volunteer leadership.
• Identify and qualify new major-gift prospects.
• Create meaningful opportunities for supporters to experience Variety’s mission firsthand.
• Prepare donor communications, proposals, briefings, and personalized follow-up.
• Maintain strong portfolio discipline and document donor strategies and activity in the CRM.
• Support planned-giving and campaign opportunities.
• Collaborate with an energetic development team, CEO, board members, and volunteers.

Who We’re Looking For

You may already work in major gifts—or you may be a talented fundraising professional ready to make major gifts the next step in your career.

Strong candidates will bring:

• Approximately three or more years of fundraising, development, donor relations, relationship management, or similar professional experience.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and earn trust.
• Experience with donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, individual giving, or portfolio management.
• Familiarity with the St. Louis philanthropic and business community.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organization and consistent follow-through.
• Confidence initiating conversations and meeting new people.
• Curiosity about what motivates donors and the judgment to develop relationships thoughtfully.
• Comfort working toward measurable goals.
• Experience with a CRM or donor database.
• A genuine connection to Variety’s mission and desire to make a difference for children and families.

Experience soliciting major gifts, planned-giving exposure, Raiser’s Edge experience, and CFRE certification are welcome—but they are not required for an otherwise strong candidate.
