The Benefits Assister helps older Vermonters, adults with disabilities, caregivers, and other individuals with limited income understand, apply for, and maintain access to public benefits and community resources. The position provides person-centered, culturally responsive assistance with programs such as 3SquaresVT/SNAP, Prescription Assistance Programs (VPHARM/LIS), Medicaid, Medicare Savings Programs, fuel and utility assistance, housing assistance, and other local, state, and federal resources.

The Benefits Assister serves as a trusted point of contact who helps clients overcome barriers, understand program requirements, gather documentation, complete applications and renewals, and connect with additional Age Well and community services. The position screens for potential eligibility and provides application assistance but does not make final eligibility determinations or provide legal advice.

This is a full-time grant funded position through June 2027.

Qualifications:

A high school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, public health, or a related field preferred.

· At least one year of experience in benefits navigation, information and referral, human services, health care, social services, or a community-based setting preferred.

· Experience assisting older adults, adults with disabilities, caregivers, people with limited income, or underserved communities preferred.

· Ability to successfully complete required background checks, HIPAA training, benefits-program training, and any required grant or state certification.
