Director of Children's Legal Services

Global Refuge, the Baltimore nonprofit formerly known as Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, is hiring a Director of Children's Legal Services. Reporting to the Chief Programs Officer, the director designs and leads its legal services program for immigrant children seeking protection in the United States. The job includes supervising the legal team and handling a small caseload of clients. Founded in 1939, Global Refuge also runs refugee resettlement and care for unaccompanied children.

What you will do

• Lead and supervise attorneys, legal assistants and pro bono attorneys, and work with the Pro Bono Coordinator to build a pro bono network across several states
• Run the program's annual budget and track its financial and program performance
• Lead and oversee a national network of partner legal services providers
• Develop funding proposals to government and private foundations with the development team
• Build capacity for immigration legal services through the Department of Justice Recognition and Accreditation program, and set core standards for legal assistance and case liaison
• Represent a small caseload of children seeking safety in the United States
• Build relationships with DOJ, DHS, foundations and coalitions, and lead trainings and community outreach

Requirements

• A law degree from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in any state
• At least eight years representing immigrants before DHS, the immigration courts and the BIA
• At least three years of progressive staff management
• At least three years representing children seeking protection, including T visas, U visas, asylum and SIJS
• Experience working with child survivors of trauma
• Experience designing and presenting trainings for legal and non-legal audiences

Full-time, based in Baltimore with work-from-home flexibility. Global Refuge lists a salary range of $116,200 to $135,500 a year.
