Compensation/Salary Range: $130,000-$150,000/year
Want to use financial leadership to help end homelessness?
HomeFront is seeking a strategic, entrepreneurial Chief Financial Officer to help shape the future of one of Central New Jersey’s leading anti-poverty and anti-homelessness organizations.
For more than 35 years, HomeFront has helped families facing homelessness and poverty build stable, successful futures through housing, workforce development, food security, children’s programming, wellness services, and a wide range of supportive services. Today, HomeFront serves thousands of families annually through a comprehensive continuum of housing and support programs.
This is not a traditional nonprofit CFO role.
We are looking for a leader who combines strong financial expertise with a builder’s mindset. As a member of our Executive Leadership Team, the CFO will serve as a key thought partner to the CEO, Board of Trustees, and senior leaders while helping build the financial systems, talent, and infrastructure necessary to support HomeFront’s next chapter of growth and impact.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
HomeFront is at an exciting point in its evolution.
The incoming CFO will have the opportunity to:
Serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and help shape organizational strategy.
Help guide a growing organization with a $15M+ budget, more than 135 employees, and a broad portfolio of programs and services.
Lead the evolution of the finance function, including helping rebuild internal accounting capacity and recruiting a new Controller.
Serve as a key partner to the Board’s Finance Committee and Audit and Risk Committee, helping guide financial strategy, governance, oversight, and organizational stewardship.
Partner with leadership on major capital investments, long-term planning, and organizational growth initiatives.
Serve as HomeFront’s primary liaison with banking partners, investment advisors, auditors, and other key financial service providers.
Strengthen financial systems, reporting, forecasting, and decision-making processes that support mission impact.
Work alongside a talented, collaborative leadership team committed to innovation, continuous improvement, and service.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is:
A strategic financial leader who can see both the big picture and the details.
Equally comfortable in Board meetings, Finance Committee discussions, financial modeling, budgeting, audits, and operational problem-solving.
Someone who enjoys building systems, improving processes, and helping organizations grow.
A collaborative leader who can build strong relationships throughout the organization.
- Experienced working with auditors, accountants, banking institutions, investment advisors, and governing boards.
Able to coordinate complex tax, audit, cybersecurity, compliance, risk-management, and financial reporting requirements across multiple internal and external stakeholders.
Passionate about using financial stewardship to advance mission-driven work.
Excited by the opportunity to help shape the future.

Seven or more years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience, including senior finance leadership roles with increasing responsibility.
Strong background in accounting, financial planning, forecasting, financial management, and organizational stewardship.

Excellent communication, analytical, and relationship-building skills.
Commitment to HomeFront’s mission and values.
CPA designation, nonprofit leadership experience, and experience with complex funding streams, capital projects, investment oversight, banking relationships, or organizational growth initiatives are strongly preferred.
