Chief Executive Officer
Life Unlimited, Inc.
North Kansas City, Missouri

The Moran Company [https://morancompany.com/] is pleased to partner with Life Unlimited, Inc. (LU) to recruit the organization's next Chief Executive Officer.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides visionary, strategic, and operational leadership for Life Unlimited [https://www.lifeunlimitedinc.org/] in alignment with the organization's mission, values, strategic plan, and commitment to excellence. The CEO ensures the organization operates as a high-performing, innovative, financially sustainable, and mission-driven nonprofit organization supporting people with disabilities as they experience life with unlimited possibilities.

The CEO leads through a strong executive and leadership structure by empowering, developing, and delegating responsibility to senior leaders across the organization.

The CEO serves as the primary leader and ambassador of the organization and works collaboratively with the Board of Directors and the Executive Leadership team.

The ideal candidate will be a transparent, collaborative, and visionary leader who can partner effectively with the Board, inspire the executive team, and foster a culture of safety, inclusion, and high-quality service. They will bring strong organizational management experience, including oversight of a large workforce, budgets, profit and loss accountability, planning, delegation, and the systems and infrastructure needed to support sustainable growth. The candidate should also have experience developing diverse revenue streams, working within Medicaid reimbursement systems, and communicating a compelling strategic vision that engages staff, board members, and stakeholders.

Life Unlimited (LU) is the largest provider of services for adults with disabilities in the Kansas City metro area, supporting people as they pursue lives with greater independence, opportunity, and inclusion. Accredited by CARF International since 1991, LU emphasizes quality, innovation, and person-centered services and was recognized by Ingram's Magazine in 2025 as one of the best companies to work for. The organization serves more than 1,000 adults across Kansas City and Northwest Missouri, supported by 540 employees and a $50 million operating budget. LU offers a broad continuum of services, including residential supports, independent living assistance, therapeutic recreation, employment services, day programming, behavioral services, consumer-directed care, and in-home support. In 2025, LU announced The Trails Neighborhood, an innovative housing initiative that will include 30 homes for more than 130 people and is supported by federal, state, and community funding. A capital campaign is underway to help advance this project and support LU's continued growth and impact.

The CEO will ensure Life Unlimited delivers innovative, person-centered, high-quality services that promote dignity, inclusion, and meaningful outcomes for individuals with disabilities. The role will build and sustain a strong, mission-driven workforce by empowering senior leaders, developing high-performing teams, and creating organizational structures that support growth. The CEO will lead strategic planning, business development, innovation, and expansion efforts to strengthen LU's impact and long-term sustainability. This includes pursuing new partnerships, service opportunities, housing developments, social enterprises, and other avenues for organizational growth. The CEO will provide strong financial stewardship by overseeing budgets, forecasting, operational performance, resource allocation, and efforts to diversify funding. The position will also use technology, data, and performance metrics to improve organizational effectiveness and support continuous quality improvement. As LU's chief advocate and ambassador, the CEO will advance disability rights, strengthen community and stakeholder relationships, and increase awareness and support for the organization's mission.

The ideal candidate will have at least seven years of progressively responsible executive leadership experience, with 10 or more years leading an organization of similar size and complexity preferred, along with a bachelor's degree and preferably a master's degree. They will bring proven success in organizational leadership, strategic planning, financial stewardship, operational growth, change management, and building high-performing teams and cultures. A strong commitment to improving outcomes for people with disabilities, combined with nonprofit and regulatory knowledge and excellent interpersonal, communication, and public relations skills, is also essential.

Total compensation for this position is competitive and will be determined based on market standards as well as the successful candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications. Benefits include affordable medical, dental, vision, and voluntary life benefits with generous employer contributions, plus company-paid basic life insurance, short-term disability, and long-term disability insurance. All employees may participate in a 401(k) plan or the employee assistance programs with matching 401(k) contributions up to 5%.
