Position Summary

The Development Manager is an important support and implementation partner to the Development & Communications team and is responsible for the development and operations functions at MIGIZI. The manager is responsible for assisting with the annual fund, donor communications and stewardship, and a small portfolio of grassroots individual donors.

The Development Manager works closely with the Director of Development and Communications and has multiple interfaces with the President of Migizi, board members, administrative and program teams. This position is responsible for the Salesforce database, weekly and monthly progress reports, written and digital media pieces.

Reports to: Director of Development and Communications


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Manage the development efforts and organizational operations under the direction of the President. This position will be tasked with three primary areas of responsibility: Development, Communications, and Administration:


Development

  • Responsible for the management of donor stewardship data input and integrity,

  • Manage donor mailing and publications dates, including all development appeals, event follow-up correspondence and donor giving lists for various internal publications.

  • Responsible for timely acknowledgment of all gifts made to the organization.

  • Grant input and pipeline management in partnership with Director of Development and Communications, and program staff.

  • Grant application submission.

  • Monitor development inbox and distribute messages to appropriate team members.

  • Assist in planning and implementation of fundraising and donor stewardship events.

  • Assist in fundraising efforts conducted via social media in partnership with the communications specialist/contractor.

  • Prepare Board Development Committee Packet and items as requested for the Board of Directors’ quarterly meetings.

  • Manage grassroots donors giving, appeals and stewardship plan at under $1000.

  • Set financial goals for grassroots donor annual campaign.


Communications

  • Develop and implement annual appeals for the annual fund.

  • Plan the Newsletter Calendar and assist communications Associate/Contractor with list development.

  • Serve as the frontline responder to donors.

  • Generate weekly and monthly access and usage reports for social media and websites.


Administrative

  • Deposits of checks from donors.

  • Monitor online giving.

  • Assist with board committee meetings, retreats, etc.

  • Assist with preparation for annual audit and end of the year financials

  • Assist with preparation for annual budget planning

  • Participate in staff meetings, committees' activities and professional development.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent experience required

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience planning, coordination and successful implementation of events and fundraising goals and initiatives.

  • Contribute to a cooperative, collaborative and flexible work team environment.

  • Model positive behaviors to youth and staff.

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and maintain healthy positive relationships with team members.

  • Knowledge of American Indian values and cultural practices.

  • Knowledge of and familiarity with Minneapolis/St. Paul Indian communities.

  • Background and ability to relate with youth in a variety of settings and on a variety of projects.

  • Computer skills (Google workspace, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

  • Salesforce experience preferred.

  • Maintain confidentiality of required information.


Work Environment

This is a full-time, 40 hours/week in-person role requiring occasional work in the evenings and on weekends. The role includes typical office duties, including significant hours sitting and working at a computer. This role reports to the Development Manager.


Additional Requirements

  • Must pass a criminal records check

  • Must pass a driving records check and maintain an acceptable driving record.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and current auto insurance.

  • Ability to regularly lift 20lbs and occasionally lift 30lbs.


Compensation & Full-Time Benefits

  • Starting pay range is $58,000 - $62,500/year

  • This role is exempt and not eligible for overtime pay.

  • PTO (25 days), Cultural Leave (3 days), Holidays (11 days); subsidized Medical & Dental premiums (75% EE, 50% Dep); Life & Disability (free); 401k match.
