About us

One Village Partners (OVP) is a U.S.-based nonprofit working alongside rural communities in Sierra Leone to create lasting improvements in health, education, economic opportunity, and gender empowerment. We believe communities are best placed to identify the changes they need. Our role is to help people bring their priorities, knowledge, and leadership together with the resources and support to put those solutions into action. Through community action, women’s economic empowerment, and local leadership programs, OVP partners with communities to build skills, carry out priorities, and sustain progress over time. We are committed to ensuring that the people closest to the work have an increasingly central role in shaping it.

What we’re looking for OVP’s Board brings together people with a range of experience and perspectives from the Twin Cities, across the United States, and in Sierra Leone. As several valued members prepare to conclude their service over the coming year, we’re seeking new members who want to contribute their expertise to OVP’s direction and long-term sustainability. We particularly welcome candidates with experience in one or more of these areas:

Development & Fundraising

Provide strategic guidance on fundraising priorities, donor engagement, and alignment with OVP’s mission and strategic plan. Help build support for OVP through philanthropic relationships, introductions, and donor stewardship.

Communications & Marketing

Offer strategic guidance on OVP’s communications, brand, messaging, and positioning. Help ensure OVP’s storytelling reflects communities with dignity and accuracy and centers Sierra Leonean voices and perspectives.

Governance & Legal

Support effective Board recruitment, orientation, development, performance assessment, and succession planning. Provide guidance on bylaws, safeguarding, conflicts of interest, and nonprofit governance practices. Offer legal experience and networks to the organization.

Board commitment

Board members serve an initial three-year term, with the possibility of serving up to nine years. The commitment includes four two-hour Board meetings each year, a half-day annual retreat, and participating in one board committee (meetings vary by committee). All meetings are available for virtual joining. Board members also support OVP by making introductions and helping expand the organization’s network. If your experience aligns with one the areas listed above and you are interested to bring your experience and perspective to OVP’s Board, please email your current résumé and a brief note about why you'd like to serve to info@onevillagepartners.org .
