The Role
The Executive Director runs the playground day to day and builds the team that opens it. This is a founding role: you will hire and train the first staff and volunteers, set the routines that keep the space safe and clean, and grow the memberships, parties and community partnerships that keep it sustainable. You report to the President of the Board.

What You Will Do

• Lead daily operations: opening and closing, staffing schedules, safety checks, cleaning standards, and guest experience
• Recruit, hire, train and supervise floor staff and volunteers
• Grow revenue from memberships, day passes, birthday parties and room rentals
• Manage the operating budget with the President and Treasurer, track results, and report to the Board
• Support fundraising: grant applications and reports, sponsor relationships, and donor acknowledgment
• Build partnerships with schools, child care providers, local businesses, the City of Eveleth and community groups
• Oversee the facility, vendors, supplies and maintenance, including the member door access system
• Represent Play Iron Range in the community and on social media

What We Are Looking For

• At least 3 years of experience managing people and operations, ideally in recreation, child care, hospitality, retail or a nonprofit
• Comfort with budgets, numbers and basic reporting
• Calm, friendly problem solving with families and guests
• Experience recruiting and leading volunteers is a plus
• Grant writing or fundraising experience is a plus
• Ties to the Iron Range and a commitment to its families
• Ability to pass a criminal background check

Schedule
Full-time, exempt. Some evenings. Saturday and Sunday on-site required until you build a staff to cover weekends.\

About Play Iron Range
Play Iron Range is a Minnesota 501(c)(3) nonprofit opening an 11,000 square foot indoor playground at 1402 Progress Parkway in Eveleth in December 2026. It gives Iron Range families a safe, clean, all-season place for kids ages 0 to 12 to play, with five play zones, a toddler area, party rooms, memberships and day passes. The organization is community funded and grant funded, and it serves families across St. Louis, Itasca, Lake, Koochiching and Aitkin counties.
