Mission
Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest (RMHC-UM) in partnership with our community, provides a comfortable and caring home-away-from-home that supports keeping families together and reduces stress during a child’s serious illness or injury. RMHC-UM operates five locations in Minnesota---four in the Twin Cities and one in Duluth, and provides complimentary lodging, meals, and support to thousands of families every year.
Position Summary
RMHC-UM at Oak Street is seeking an intern(s) to support RMH Programs including our onsite K-12 school, special family events and adult and family programs during the day. Responsibilities consist of planning and organizingactivities, crafts, lesson plans, parties, and other various House events. You would be working directly with the Family Services Staff with the goal of providing safe, age-appropriate, engaging and rewarding experiences for all families using our services.
Major Job Accountabilities
This is an estimate of the duties to be included in the internship. The exact duties and projects will be determined by mutual agreement of the intern(s) and RMHC staff. All duties will be carried out with the direction and supervision of the Family Services Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise onsite activities for children ages 2.5-19 years old.
Plan, prep and lead developmentally appropriate lessons in the classroom
Plan, prep and lead onsite activities for school age children on weekdays for Afterschool program.
Assist/work one on one with Family Services Staff
Office administrative tasks
Assist with supporting the front desk
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Comfortable with children with potentially fragile medical conditions
Strong creativity with the ability to think outside the box
Demonstrate flexibility in the workplace
Strong communication skills
Ability to work independently
Good attention to detail and organization
Show kindness and empathy to families and children facing a health care crisis
Ability to multitask and deal with multiple personalities and situations
Interest in non-profits, family programming and education preferred
Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds and ages
Time Commitment
Available from Now – January with option to continue based on performance
15-40 hours per week with flexible days
Priority will be given to those available to help support our K-12 classroom and afterschool program between 8:30am – 4:30pm who can start immediately.
