Position: Combined bookkeeper/accountant position for a non-profit
Reports to: Executive Director and Operations Director
Hours: 32 hours a week – 4 days a week (days TBD)8:30-4:30pm(in-office position)
SPIP is seeking a motivated Bookkeeper/Accountant to become an integral part of our diverse team. The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of accounting principles, experience in non-profit financial reporting and a passion for excellence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Bookkeeping & Accounting
Responsible for all bookkeeping functions.
Prepare and maintain general ledger entries ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
Reconcile bank statements and other financial records.
Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries and accruals.
Collaborate with external auditors during the annual financial/single audit, providing necessary documentation.
Monitor vendor invoices and grantor/funder receivables, ensuring timely processing.
Prepare vendor payments/checks on a weekly basis.
Prepare deposits.
Code/allocate revenue and expenses by funding source.
Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Budgeting
Plan & track budgets by funder, program and grant ensuring compliance and providing analysis of deviations.
Work with executive director in developing program/project budgets.
Work closely with executive director to develop annual budget and make adjustments.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare monthly internal financial statements and management reports that support audits, grants & board visibility.
Grant Billing & Compliance
Support the preparation of grant budgets.
Prepare accurate & timely government/funder billings, tracking grant budgets.
Assist in the grantor/funder financial reconciliations.
Support the preparation of grant specific reports.
Other
Assist the administrative assistant or leadership team with other miscellaneous tasks.
Assist in other agency functions at the direction of the Executive Director or Operations Director.
Qualifications/ Requirements:
Minimum of BA or Associate’s degree in accounting or equivalent.
2 + Professional experience in accounting and finance, preferably in public or non-profit fields.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
Extensive knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
Expertise in accounting standards and regulations.
Proven knowledge of accounting and financial systems and application of analytical skills.
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks or similar) and Excel.
Experience and proficiency with Microsoft office, Excel Spreadsheets and Word.
Experience preparing expense reports.
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong communication skills for explaining financial concepts clearly.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Ability to maintain complete internal and external confidentiality.
Highly motivated self-starter with an aptitude for problem-solving and the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
Ability to meet deadlines with meticulous accuracy.
Good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to function well in a high-paced environment.
Must pass a criminal background check.
Desired qualifications
In-depth understanding of non-profit budgets, funding sources and expenses.
Experience working with government grants and knowledge of their requirements.
Knowledge of and/or exposure to regulations as they apply to nonprofit agencies or community foundations and government funding.
Other Requirements:
Valid driver’s license, vehicle and auto insurance required.

Pay and Benefits:
Between $28 and $32 per hour depending upon experience. Excellent comprehensive medical, dental, long-term disability and life insurance is provided.
