
The Head of Board Relations will oversee the expansion, restructuring, and effective functioning of the organization's multiple boards. Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, the role serves as the primary strategy liaison and operational bridge between the executive leadership team and the boards, driving board membership, participation, and administrative governance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Board Strategy: Partner with the CEO, Chief Advancement Officer, and board leadership to architect meeting cadences and committee structures; align board priorities with the organization's growth strategy.
- Strategic Communications: Manage the board recruitment pipeline, serve as the principal point of contact for board members, and synthesize complex organizational data/financials into briefings and reports.
- Operations: Plan and execute all board/committee meetings and retreats; oversee the distribution of board books and meeting materials.
- Governance & Compliance: Lead board pipeline development and succession planning; ensure activities align with bylaws, school charters, and multi-state regulatory requirements; maintain official corporate records.
- Engagement: Develop briefing materials for trustees; monitor attendance and engagement trends; partner with the Advancement team to maximize trustee-driven fundraising.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's or JD preferred.
- Experience: 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in corporate governance, non-profit board relations, executive administration, or legal/compliance environments.
- Core Competencies: Strong change management, exceptional written/verbal communication, high organizational skills for complex project management, discretion with confidential information, and technical proficiency with board management software (e.g., BoardEffect) and CRM databases (e.g., Salesforce).
