About the Community Arts Training Institute

The nationally recognized Community Arts Training (CAT) Institute prepares artists of all disciplines and their community partners to collaborate on arts-based community development. It was founded in 1997 as a program of the Regional Arts Commission. To support growth and to align with the Commission’s new strategic framework, CAT became its own nonprofit organization at the end of 2025.

CAT harnesses the power of the arts to advance social change. We conduct an annual cross-sector training program, engage our 400+ alumni, host educational workshops and convenings, and conduct research.

A New Organization

We’ve become fond of saying, “CAT is a 30-year-old start-up.” The new organization is led by Jenny Murphy, the outgoing Co-Director, Organizational Development, and Pacia Anderson, the Co-Director, Programs + Community Building. Operations are supported by a part-time administrative assistant. The organization is governed by a six-member Board of Directors.

Position Overview

The Co-Director, Organizational Development leads the CAT Institute in collaboration with the Co-Director, Programs + Community Building and reports to the Board of Directors. The Co-Director is responsible for ensuring that the CAT Institute has the resources necessary to fulfill its mission and implement its strategic plan. The Co-Director builds and manages internal systems for efficient operations and governance, fundraises to meet budget goals, and monitors organizational capacity.
