Job Description

Please include both a resume and a cover letter with your application.

Philadelphia and Scientific Advancement

The evidence project is part of the Philadelphia and Scientific Advancement portfolio, which houses all of Pew’s grantmaking initiatives, including two that support scientific research nationally and internationally—the Pew Biomedical Programs and the Pew Fellows Program in Marine Conservation—and one that supports state-level science policy fellowships. The portfolio’s grantmaking also focuses on supporting thriving communities in Pew’s hometown of Philadelphia. In Philadelphia, our grants support health and human services nonprofits, artists and arts organizations, and public spaces that make the city a better place to live for everyone, poverty, and demographics. Furthermore, the portfolio includes the Evidence Project, which seeks to catalyze collective action among philanthropies, public funding agencies, and a diver array of leaders in government, academia, and civil society to close the gap between research and outcomes.

Evidence Project
The evidence project coordinates with philanthropies, public funding agencies, and a diverse array of leaders in government, academia, and civil society to close the gap between research and real-world impact, ensuring that research more consistently translates to policy, practice, and community benefit. The evidence project works to close this gap by (1) generating actionable evidence about what makes research relevant and trusted, (2) accelerating uptake of promising practices across funders and institutions, and (3) embedding those practices in research organizations to sustain impact at scale.

Position Overview

The associate I supports several initiatives of the Evidence Project, including the Impact Funders Forum, a collaborative of funders who align investments, share learning, and identify scalable approaches to improve the usefulness and impact of research, and the University Presidents and Chancellors Council for Public Impact Research, which works to scale changes in incentives and infrastructure for a more responsive and resilient research system.

Reporting to the manager, Evidence Project, the associate I helps manage technical systems, assists with project management, supports event planning, and helps with internal and external partner coordination and scheduling.

Located in Pew’s Washington D.C. office, this position participates in Pew’s hybrid work program with core days in the office and the flexibility to telework the remaining days. Staff also enjoy four telework “flex weeks” per year.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a work environment that inspires excellence, values impact, encourages transparency, builds mutual trust and respect, embraces and values diversity, and is collaborative, caring and compassionate.

  • Facilitate and provide project management, including creating timelines, setting milestones, and tracking progress for project workstreams.

  • Organize documents and shared drives.

  • Build and manage Salesforce campaigns for events and stakeholder tracking. Manage other technical platforms as needed.

  • Manage and support contract development, review, and execution.

  • Draft and organize content for internal and external audiences, including project meetings, board materials, meeting summaries, and newsletters.

  • Assist with planning and execution of conferences, workshops, and virtual meetings, including logistical coordination, partner communications, materials preparation, and follow-up activities.

  • Assist with estimating, tracking, and processing expenses for project budgets.

  • Coordinate with colleagues across Pew to advance project goals and ensure smooth implementation of project activities.

  • Participate in activities that support program and Pew-wide objectives.

Companydescription

The Pew Charitable Trusts is driven by the power of knowledge to solve today's most challenging problems. Pew applies a rigorous, analytical approach to improve public policy, inform the public and stimulate civic life.

We are an independent nonprofit organization - the sole beneficiary of seven individual trusts established between 1948 and 1979 by two sons and two daughters of Sun Oil Company founder Joseph N. Pew and his wife, Mary Anderson Pew. From its first day in 1948, Pew's founders steeped the new institution with the entrepreneurial and optimistic spirit that characterized their lives. Early priorities included cancer research, the Red Cross and a pioneering project to assist historically black colleges.
