
Director of Donor Engagement
WSLR+Fogartyville | Sarasota, FL | Reports to the Executive Director
Position Overview
WSLR+Fogartyville is a listener-supported community radio station (96.5 FM) and arts center in Sarasota. We are looking for a strategic, relationship-driven Director of Donor Engagement to lead our individual giving program and grow our base of sustaining members. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Board, this role drives sustainable revenue through annual fund drives, recurring monthly memberships, major gifts, and donor stewardship. The ideal candidate understands the vital role grassroots community media plays in local culture and civic life.
Key Responsibilities
Individual Giving and Major Gifts
- Manage a portfolio of mid-level and major donors, building tailored cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- Design and run direct mail and digital fundraising campaigns throughout the year.
- Identify and cultivate prospects from listener data, event attendees, and station advocates.
Membership and Sustaining Supporters
- Lead the strategy and execution of WSLR's on-air membership and fund drives, including messaging, pitch scheduling, and volunteer pitch-partner coordination.
- Convert one-time contributors into monthly sustaining members.
- Ensure prompt, personal donor acknowledgment, benefit fulfillment, and impact reporting.
Community Engagement and Events
- Work with staff to turn live performances, talks, and gatherings at Fogartyville into donor engagement opportunities.
- Host donor appreciation events that build community among station champions.
Development Committee and Volunteers
- Staff and support the Development Committee (development chair, board members, and community volunteers), coordinating their work on shared fundraising efforts.
- Data and Operations
Keep accurate donor records and track contribution trends, retention, and pipeline health in the station's CRM.
- Report regularly on individual giving performance to station leadership and the Board.
- Qualifications
Three to five years of demonstrated success in nonprofit development, individual giving, or membership management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable speaking directly with donors and making persuasive on-air or event pitches.
- Strong alignment with WSLR's mission to promote grassroots news, diverse music, and independent community voices.
- Experience with fundraising CRMs, email marketing platforms, and donor data segmentation.
Schedule
This role includes regular evening and weekend work tied to fund drives, live performances, and donor events at Fogartyville. Flexibility to work those hours is required.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $65,000 to $72,000 per year, depending on experience. This is a full-time, exempt position. Benefits include paid time off and a 401(k) plan with a 3% employer contribution.
