
Position: Food Rescue Driver
This position will report to the Operations Director and work closely with the Food Rescue Coordinator and Food Logistics Coordinator. The Food Rescue Driver position is a physically demanding job that requires a fair amount of bending, lifting, carrying, and sorting items up to 75 pounds.
Organization Summary
STEP responds to our neighbors in need by providing access to vital services that foster stability. STEP provides direct services to residents who may need food, clothing, financial assistance, and transportation, as well as counseling regarding resources and problem solving. STEP is well known in the community, recognized as the primary social service organization to address concerns of 4,000 neighbors who live with the challenges of poverty. The organization is comprised of 14 part-time and full-time staff with an average tenure of 5+ years and supported by 140+ volunteers.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Drive a refrigerated box truck and a cargo van.
Pick up rescued food from local retail partners.
Communicate with Food Rescue Partners in relation to program changes, including date or pick up time adjustments.
Load and unload food rescue product.
Regularly lift up to 75 pounds.
Follow food safety standards including recording of temperatures and practicing safe food handling protocols and policies.
Work in tandem with volunteers.
Fill in when needed for our client home deliveries.
Maintain vehicle logs.
Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicles and report issues when necessary.
Experience and Qualifications
Requirements:
Physically able to lift and move items up to 75 lbs.
Able to drive a 20-foot, refrigerated box truck.
Holds a Minnesota Class D Driver’s License.
Safe driving record.
Pass a vehicle and criminal background check.
Experience with partner communication and logistics.
Demonstrated ability of working independently and problem-solving.
Demonstrated ability of working within a team.
Preferred qualifications
Experience in a small non-profit organization.
Familiarity with St. Louis Park community and/or direct service nonprofit.
Experience with food handling.

Compensation and hours
Wage is $25.00/hour at 8-10 hours per week. Employee will be eligible for vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay, as well as STEP’s retirement plan. Initial schedule will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30-12:30. Additional hours on occasion.
