Director of Mission Advancement
St. Vincent de Paul of North Central Indiana
South Bend, Indiana | Full-Time | Exempt
Help build the relationships that make our mission possible.
Are you a relationship-builder who enjoys turning ideas into action? Do you believe fundraising is about more than raising money? It's about connecting people to a mission that matters.
St. Vincent de Paul of North Central Indiana is seeking a Director of Mission Advancement to lead our fundraising efforts and help sustain and grow our impact across St. Joseph and Elkhart counties. This is an opportunity for a resourceful, self-directed professional who enjoys building relationships, developing ideas, and rolling up their sleeves to get things done.
About the Role
Working closely with the Executive Director, the Director of Mission Advancement will lead the day-to-day work of fund development. This person will implement our current development plan, strengthen relationships with existing supporters, cultivate new donors, and help shape fundraising priorities for the coming fiscal year.
This is a hands-on role in a small, collaborative organization. You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of our development efforts, contribute ideas, and see the direct impact of your work. The role combines relationship-building and fundraising strategy with the practical details of running a development program, including donor records, communications, and follow-through.
Key Responsibilities
- Donor Relationships and Stewardship: Build relationships with current and prospective donors, cultivate major gift opportunities, communicate our impact, and ensure timely, thoughtful gift acknowledgment and stewardship.
- Fundraising Strategy and Execution: Implement the annual fund development plan in partnership with the Executive Director, monitor progress toward goals, and contribute ideas and recommendations for future priorities.
- Grants and Corporate Partnerships: Identify and pursue grant opportunities, develop proposals, and cultivate relationships with businesses, foundations, and community partners.
- Annual Giving and Campaigns: Coordinate annual appeals, special campaigns, monthly giving, and other initiatives that engage supporters and generate revenue.
- Fundraising Events: Plan, coordinate, and execute fundraising events in collaboration with the Executive Director, staff, and volunteers. Manage event logistics, sponsorships, donor engagement, and follow-up to strengthen relationships and support fundraising goals.
- Donor Data and Operations: Maintain accurate donor records, track gifts and fundraising activity, support reporting and analysis, and ensure reliable follow-through on donor commitments and communications.
- Communications and Mission Awareness: Share compelling stories about our work, develop donor communications, and strengthen community understanding of our mission and impact.
- Planned Giving: Help lay the groundwork for a planned giving program and identify opportunities to encourage long-term support.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who combines initiative and sound judgment with a genuine commitment to relationships and results.
The ideal candidate will bring:
- 3-5 years experience in fundraising, donor relations, business development, marketing, communications, or a related field.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills, including the confidence to cultivate donors and make fundraising requests.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through reliably.
- The ability to work independently, develop practical solutions, and move projects forward in a small organization.
- Comfort using donor databases, spreadsheets, digital communications, and other tools to manage fundraising activities.
- A willingness to balance strategic work with hands-on administrative responsibilities.
- A commitment to the dignity of every person and respect for the mission and values of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
Nonprofit fundraising experience is valuable, but we welcome candidates whose transferable experience demonstrates an ability to build relationships, generate support, and deliver results.
Why Join the St. Vincent de Paul Society Team?
Our mission is rooted in personal encounter, compassionate service, and respect for the dignity of each person. Through our parish conferences and District Council programs, volunteers accompany neighbors facing hardship and help them work toward greater stability and self-sufficiency.
As part of a small, collaborative team, you'll work directly with the Executive Director and dedicated volunteers. Your work will have a visible impact on our ability to serve neighbors in need and strengthen the relationships that sustain our mission.
- We offer the opportunity to take ownership, contribute ideas, and help shape the future of our development program.

- Full-time, exempt position based in South Bend, Indiana.
- Standard weekday schedule, with occasional evening and weekend commitments as needed.
- Competitive nonprofit salary based on experience and qualifications and the scope of this role.
