Tails of Hope – Rutland County’s Humane Society | Pittsford, VT
Full-time, Exempt | $45,000–$53,000 per year, based on experience
Do you love animals and want your work to make a real, lasting difference? Tails of Hope, Rutland County’s no-kill humane society, is starting an exciting new chapter, and we’re looking for an outgoing, enthusiastic, fundraising-focused go-getter to help build the future of animal care in our region.
This is a particularly exciting time to join us. We’re launching a capital campaign to build a new, state-of-the-art shelter that will transform how we serve the animals and people of Rutland County’s 28 towns. You’ll be part of that story from the ground up.
You’ll own our donor database and donor mailings, from mailing lists through printing and delivery, and you’ll keep our records clean and reliable. Each week you’ll report on new donors, top donors and recurring donors. You’ll dig into the data to spot trends and bring fresh ideas for growing our support. You’ll also coordinate fundraising events, research new individual, corporate and foundation supporters, re-engage lapsed donors, help write grants and appeals, and support the capital campaign.
A major part of this role is building and selling our 2027 business sponsorship program. You’ll create sponsorship packages for a variety of our programs and events, meet with local businesses, and make sure every sponsor gets the recognition they were promised.
You’ll report to the Executive Director and work side by side with them to build and carry out our fundraising strategy.
What we’re looking for:
- A bachelor’s degree, or at least 2 years of experience in nonprofit development or fundraising
- Experience with donor databases or fundraising CRM software
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Excel for analyzing data and building reports
- Comfort turning numbers into clear reports and new ideas
- Experience with business sponsorships, corporate partnerships or sales is a plus
- Clear, warm writing and close attention to detail
- Discretion with confidential donor information
- An organized self-starter who can juggle many projects in a small, fast-paced team
- A friendly, professional person with a true passion for animal welfare
Schedule: 40 hours a week, Monday–Friday, at our Pittsford shelter, with occasional evenings and weekends for events.
A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
Benefits: Health, dental and vision insurance, plus paid time off.
To apply: Email executivedirector@rchsvt.org with a cover letter explaining why you’re a great fit, your resume, and three letters of reference or recommendation from people who have worked with you or supervised you. Applications without a cover letter, resume and at least two letters of reference will not be accepted.
Applications accepted through November 13, 2026, or until the position is filled.
