Organizational Overview
The FriendShip is a non-profit organization that offers programs and services to support members age 50 and over who wish to age in place. Volunteers and members join together to provide a network of support that empowers seniors to lead healthy, independent, active, engaged lifestyles while living in their own homes and communities. By joining The FriendShip, members have access to:
- Volunteer-provided services - Trained volunteers provide personalized assistance with various needs such as transportation, errands, light home maintenance/repairs, and technology issues (e.g., with computers, phones, thermostats).
- Activities and programs - A variety of activities are offered to support member interests and to facilitate social connection and engagement in the community.
Position Summary & Responsibilities
The FriendShip is volunteer-driven, with an active Board and committee structure. We are now seeking to add a part-time employee who will work closely with the Executive Director in the following areas:
Member support – connecting members to services and programs
- Communicate regularly with members to gather service request information, inform them of upcoming events, and check in with those who are socially isolated regularly
- Ensure service request details are kept up-to-date in our online database/scheduling system (Club Express) and oversee the process for sending the requests out
- Help process/track new member applications and membership renewals
- Help with special projects to support members (such as holiday gift deliveries), as needed
Volunteer coordination – coordinating volunteer assistance to meet members’ needs
- Match volunteers to service requests to assure member needs are filled
- Track volunteer hours and other service statistics
- Maintain volunteer records and vetting information
- Assist with onboarding volunteers, including scheduling volunteer orientation sessions
- Serve as staff liaison to the Volunteer Committee for meetings, etc., as needed
Communications – developing timely, attractive materials and messages across various platforms for internal/external communications
- Draft/send newsletters and program reminders (via email and in print)
- Create social media content (Facebook and Instagram) and update our website
- Design materials for outreach purposes and events
- Work alongside the Fundraising Committee to assist with The FriendShip’s primary fundraiser, Midlands Gives, and other fundraisers, as needed
- Coordinate photos of our work for use in promotional materials and help maintain/store photos
Office coverage – providing general administrative support for The FriendShip’s office
- Staff all or part of office hours on 3-4 days per week (The FriendShip’s office hours are weekdays from 9:00-1:00 p.m.)
- Ensure timely responses to calls/emails from current members/volunteers and to inquiries from potential members/volunteers and the general public
- Help generate tax acknowledgement letters and track donor gifts
- Track program RSVPs and coordinate member rides, as needed
- Provide other admin support for special projects, events, and surveys, as needed
- Other duties, as needed
Work Schedule Information
This part-time position will be 12 hours per week (with the potential to grow); the exact hours are subject to discussion/flexible. The position will be based in the office 3-4 days per week and will involve working remotely to track member requests and volunteer assignments as well.
Applicant Skills/Qualifications
Applicants should have strong computer and writing skills, be comfortable reaching out to members and volunteers via phone, and be detail-oriented and flexible. They should demonstrate an ability to engage comfortably and effectively with members, volunteers, Board members, and committee members. Experience (or interest) in working with older adults and volunteers is expected. The ideal candidate would be a problem-solver who can work independently and is self-motivated, organized, and a good communicator.
Applicants will need to use Microsoft programs and Google drive as well as our online database/scheduling system, Club Express. This database is our primary resource for scheduling services and communicating our members' needs to our volunteers. Experience with online marketing platforms and programs used for laying out basic flyers/emails/Facebook posts (such as Canva and Campaign Monitor, or the like) is highly preferred.
