This position is part of the Vermont Rural Learning Collective (VRLC) AmeriCorps Program. VRLC is a national service program that places AmeriCorps members with non-profit organizations throughout the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) of Vermont and surrounding areas to support those organizations in building capacity and expanding their educational and/or environmental services that many communities rely on. VRLC supports members in their path to educational and career attainment through direct service, on-going trainings, and professional development opportunities offered during the service year. The Vermont Farmers Food Center increases access and availability of locally produced food in the Rutland Region through education, expanding markets and market access, aggregation, and distribution of locally produced and value added agricultural products. Our goals for the AmeriCorps position are to strengthen our community involvement and distribution of Farmacy, food as medicine shares in the community, provide greater food education, and improve access to our Online Market platforms.
Term of service: 900 hours of service from 1/2/2027 – 7/16/2027
Member Duties :
Essential Functions: Support VFFC’s food hub distribution operations by receiving, organizing, loading, transporting, and delivering local food products. Operate the refrigerated delivery van safely; assist with route coordination; maintain accurate inventory, delivery, mileage, and required service records; follow food safety, vehicle, sanitation, and workplace procedures; maintain clean and organized vehicles/work areas; communicate professionally with farmers, producers, customers, partners, and staff; participate in planning and meetings related to food distribution and local food access.
Secondary Functions: volunteer coordination, participant outreach, produce distribution, newsletters, nutrition education, food demonstrations, farm-based education, community partnerships, communications, and local food outreach. Participate in meetings addressing food access, food justice, and preventive health, and assist with approved disaster response and recovery activities.
Program Benefits : Gross living allowance (this is a stipend and not taxable income) of $15,300 disbursed over 28 weeks, an education award of $3,697.50 upon successful completion of service, and training.
