Agency Overview
Healing Action Network partners with survivors and the community to end human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation. We do this through community awareness, client advocacy, and a comprehensive array of services. We fulfill our mission through two distinct programs.
Center for Survivors – We provide trauma recovery services that include intensive service management, trauma therapy, individual and group peer support services, drop-in support center, and psychoeducation & trauma groups to adults who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation including, but not limited to, sex trafficking, prostitution, stripping, escorting, pornography, and survival sex.
Communities Against Trafficking & Exploitation (CATE) – CATE is a statewide advocacy and education program to prevent and respond to human trafficking and exploitation. Primary activities include community education, research & data collection, and standards of care.
Position Overview
The Trauma Therapist will utilize trauma-focused treatment modalities to provide individual counseling, group counseling, and group psychoeducation to adults who have experienced trafficking and/or Commercial Sexual Exploitation.

- Clinical experience and enjoyment working with clients affected by trauma and dissociation, substance use disorders, severe anxiety and depression, eating disorders, and those affected by domestic and sexual violence
- Applied knowledge of trauma-informed theories, principles, and best practices in working with individuals with PTSD and complex trauma
- The capacity to provide assistance in a timely, sensitive, and supportive manner based on trauma- informed practice principles
- Ability to form trusting relationships with survivors with a history of relational trauma
- A rights-based, harm reduction, and social justice framework
- A flexible, creative, and proactive working style, using one’s own initiative to anticipate the unexpected and remain resourceful
- Demonstrated ability to use person-first language and refrain from stigmatizing language
- Demonstrated ability to model appropriate relational boundaries, use team as support, and practice self-care when exposed to high volume of traumatized victims
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; proven ability to communicate with diverse audiences
- Ability to manage multiple tasks including proficiency in balancing direct service responsibilities with effective record keeping
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks and priorities, set and meet goals and deadlines
- Willingness to serve as a team member in the Center for Survivors and collaborate with wrap-around services as needed
What You’ll Do…
- Establish a helping relationship, assess complex problems, select interventions to help Members function effectively
- Provide individual and group therapy to adult survivors of Commercial Sexual Exploitation (CSE) for both in-person therapy for Members living in the St. Louis region and Telehealth therapy for survivors in underserved, rural areas of Missouri
- Provide psychoeducation groups surrounding trauma, healthy relationships, and substance use recovery
- Work with Members to complete a comprehensive safety plan
- Work with Members to create client specific, measurable, and reasonable goals, objectives and outcomes
- Provide psychoeducation and therapeutic skills to promote member recovery
- Help Members understand their treatment and recovery options
- Respond in a timely way to changes in member’s conditions and take appropriate actions
- Coordinate/communicate with other providers to increase effectiveness of treatment
- Coordinate necessary care with family members and outside resources
- Participate as a member of the Service Team by providing clinical consultation with team members
- Participate in Supervision, Service Team meetings, and All-Agency meetings
- Administer a variety of pre/post assessments and evaluations to ensure effectiveness of services
- Work with Service Team to strengthen the infrastructure required to expand and deliver comprehensive services
- Promote effective and efficient utilization of clinical resources
