Founded in 1969, Ohel Children's Home and Family Services is a social services organization serving individuals and families across the New York metropolitan area, including New York, New Jersey, Brooklyn, and Far Rockaway. It provides a broad range of support, from mental health counseling and foster care placement to housing, elder care, and domestic violence shelter services.
The organization's scope is wide. Its mental health services cover counseling, trauma and bereavement support, and outpatient care. It operates residences for individuals with developmental disabilities and older adults, and provides respite programs for families. Originally established to serve Jewish families in the New York area, its foster care program offers placement services within the community.
Ohel currently cares for more than 17,000 individuals, a scale that reflects over five decades of continuous operation. Its work spans multiple interconnected verticals, including social services, mental health, disability services, and domestic violence support, all within the greater New York region.
